11/18 Observations

I sent a text to everybody this morning telling them we’d still be meeting at the same time but that we weren’t going to do the 300’s today… wanted to prep them a little so I didn’t smack them in the face with the news at the track this afternoon.
Definitely some frustration shown by them, and they still pleaded to let them do the 300’s… and 3 of the 5 were probably in a position where they still could’ve done it quite successfully… But I drew a quick Selye adaptation curve on my hand and explained to them that they were at the bottom of the curve right now … I told them that after working this hard for two and a half weeks if we went to some rest right now we’d shoot back up to a new higher level of fitness. I said we could “probably” do the workout today and be fine… but “probably” could also leave us below that line for another week, if not do worse. And I didn’t want to mess with that possibility, because that could undo a lot of the good we have just done.
I told them we’d take the next week and recover/regroup, and that we’d come out Tuesday ready to run… still a little bit of disappointment on their faces, for sure… but one of the younger runners (Chris) said, “Well, Coach hasn’t done us wrong yet, so we got no reason not to believe him… lets knock out this general strength.”
That was awesome to hear… I think they’re about as on board as they can get right now.
Even with the couple people I had this evening in my “headache” group (they don’t wanna quite put in the work yet, and they’re the least talented, too)… I made some good headway with them. I’ll write more about that in my upcoming 11/18 workout result e-mail. |
